When you think of the projects involved in home renovations for the kitchen, you likely think of the biggest things, like new appliances, new flooring, and new cabinetry. While these are all certainly important components of kitchen home improvements, you shouldn’t overlook the smaller items and details because though small, these things can have a major impact on how polished and pulled together your kitchen looks.
One of the most important details that has a major impact like that is your kitchen cabinet hardware. Kitchen drawer pulls and cabinet knobs that match the rest of the kitchen’s design and décor add the necessary finishing touch the room needs to look fantastic and “done.”
If your hardware does NOT match, then though the items themselves aren’t taking up a lot of physical space, the overall look of the room will be much less powerful and harmonious.
Think about it – if you refinish every kitchen cabinet in the room so that it has bright, fresh new paint or a beautiful deep new wood stain, and then you just put the old, banged up, dingy hardware back on it, how will your cabinets look? Though the hardware is a small detail, putting old stuff on a new face is going to drag down the upgrades you’ve just made and make them look less clean and sharp.
Instead, install new knobs and glass drawer pulls on your cabinetry. Installing new cabinet hardware is quick and easy. It’s a do-it-yourself project that you can complete on your own, usually in one afternoon. Sometimes, depending on the new hardware you choose, you may need to drill new holes in your cabinets.
If this is the case, pick up some of the templates you can find at your local hardware store to use as guides to make sure all of the holes line up evenly and are installed in the same spots on all of the cabinets in the room.
If your original hardware was odd-shaped or used more drill holes than the new hardware does, then you can cover up those old drill holes you aren’t using anymore with backplates or by filling them in with wood putty and painting or staining over top.
No matter which way you go, though, paying attention to the details like your kitchen drawer pulls will take your new kitchen look to the next level, leaving it clean, polished, and pulled together.
